In the second half of the nineteenth century, Francesco Gera, a doctor and agronomist in Conegliano, a brotherly friend of Alessandro Manzoni, with whom he carried on a close correspondence concerning the raising of silkworms, founded the Gera silk mill, which employed 800 people. The mill raised silkworms and spun silk thread. The company was handed down from father to son up to today, also developing fabric dyeing after 1947.

Today the company specialises in piece dyeing, the only in Italy to have, apart from having adopted avant-garde techniques, maintained the old "star" technique, guaranteeing the best result for difficult fabrics such as heavy satins, shantung, crepe, etc.
